Three medals and a trophy case shelf...

I'm not gonna lie... I'm exhausted- as is the rest of the University of Aberdeen Women's Volleyball Team. After a fall season without even a dropped set, we began this year in pursuit of the British University Sports Association (BUSA) Women's Volleyball Trophy. After a long Christmas break, the team had only two weeks to get back in the swing of things before our 1st round match. We won, sending us to play in Leeds. We drove the long 8 hours, played, dropping our first set of the season, but winning overall 3-1. That evening we began to drive back, but were fortunate enough to obtain free lodging 3 hours from the university of Leeds.

After that important win, our team had three weeks off until the BUSA Semifinals. The first weekend was the Scottish Universities Cup, where teams of all levels compete to see which division has the top team. After going undefeated, we were titled the winners of the Cup and received a plaque which we named Trevor and each girl got a medal. The following weekend five member of the AU Volleyball Team were pick for the Scottish Universities team. Three of us competed the next weekend; myself, Lilian Lieber, and Sarah Naumann (both amazing players from Germany). We played against the National Scottish Team and the English Universities Team. What a great experience!

Now it was back to BUSA. We were headed to Sheffield with some of our Athletics boys to compete in the Championships. Again, it was an 8 hour drive. Lovely in a 15 passenger van! However, the ride didn't seem to affect us. We played Saturday morning with proficient ability! Our coach was now able to play with us, since recently becoming a student again, thus allowing me to play middle for the first time all season. What a rebirth! I felt like I was back at Eckerd again! I thought those days were gone forever! No more setter for me!

After winning the Semifinals, we had a nice relaxing meal out to celebrate. What a team we had become! Regardless of playing time, each person fulfilled their rolls willingly and superbly. We then returned to the area the next morning to win the Championship versus Reading. We were awarded the BUSA Women's Volleyball Cup and each player received a medal. Gordon Cox, our University Sports VP, told any team that won that they would have a 100GBP bar tab on him at our local pub, the Bobbin. Ha! My team of 11, chose quid night to use the tab. that's 100 beers.

They had a good time, but one last challenge awaited us: The Granite City Challege vs. RGU. We put together a hodgepodge team together and still beat them 3-0. We received a plate for that and a medal. Trevor has two friends now and we have our own shelf in the trophy case in the Gym, along with a fine array of medals. Congrats team! What a great season!
